Rodge Podge 2014 - July 26th, 2014

WHAT IS IT?
Simply put, Rodge Podge is the Yin to WAAAGH! Paca's Yang.

WAAAGH! Paca pushes the traditional tournament structure to its limits. Rodge Podge breaks from that structure altogether. So if you desperately need a break from the same old comp, sports, and paint scores, Rodge Podge is the only way to get your fix!

HOW DOES IT WORK THIS YEAR?
Rodge Podge is a team tournament, first and foremost. Each round you will be matched up with a (mostly) random partner to battle against a similarly paired team of turd birds. You are only loosely allied with your partner, though, as this team tournament can only have ONE champion. Whoever has scored the most VP will be declared the Overall Champion after Round Three!

ISN'T THERE SOME WEIRD CATCH EACH YEAR FOR BUILDING YOUR LIST?
Indeed! This year you will build a legal 1,000 point army from your favorite *OLD* army book. Current army books are *NOT LEGAL* for Rodge Podge 2014. So start scouring eBay now and plan to leave your monstrous cav at home, slick.

Only official army books from the past are in. No Indy GT, Ravening Hordes or White Dwarf crap. We’ll allow anything as far back as 4th edition books, since the unit rules and points structures haven’t really changed much since then. (Seriously, GW has been dialing it in for like 20 years!)

Build your army according to the construction rules indicated in the book, with the following exceptions:
  • No Lord choices (or equivalents, depending on the book you choose to use)
  • No Battle Standard Bearers
  • No Special Characters
  • No Allies or Dogs of War unit choices (although standalone DoW are playable with that kooky old book!)
  •  250 point unit cap
  •  Ignore the General of Undeath, Hierophant or their army equivalent rules
Although the unit choices are from prior editions, the tournament will use 8th edition rules.
  • For example, units with Frenzy use the 8th edition rules for Frenzy, not the 4th, 5th or whatever edition of Frenzy.
  • Special rules will be applied literally, meaning they could be quite powerful or useless in 8th edition. (Get scouring for the power, baby!)
  • Any special rules that do not make sense with 8th edition rules will not be used. No special rules will be changed or fudged to make them compatible.
  • Units will have to be assigned a designation, such as Infantry, Monster, etc. Most of the time, the designation should be obvious.
  •  Reply to this post with any questions, otherwise check out the Rodge Podge section of the Point Hammered forum for the FAQ and other goodies.
In addition to the above army construction rules, the following gameplay rules are in effect:
  • All teams count as Trusted Allies
  •  Each General counts as the Battle Standard Bearer for their ally’s contingent.
  • (Consequently, you may not use an allied General's Inspiring Presence rule.)
  • Ignore the Horde rule from page 49 of the Warhammer rulebook.
Unless specified otherwise, each team deploys one unit from each contingent at a time.
  • Any team conflict over the order of moves, charges, combats, etc., should be resolved by rolling a d6 between the players.
  • If players can't decide how to use their team's magic dice, split them evenly, rolling a d6 for any odd dice.
  • VPs are earned as a team, although each individual player subtracts the VP they lost during the game to determine their individual totals.
  • Example: As a team, Player A and B earned 2,000 VP. Player lost 500 VP from his own army so his personal total is 1500 VP. Player B lost 1,000 VP, so his personal total is 1,000 VP.
HOW IN THE BLAZES DO I WIN THIS SUCKER?
The Rodge Podge is always about Victory Points. Whoever gets the most wins. Nothing else matters. This is the only team tournament with one winner!

Victory Points are gained through the completion of 4 minor objectives beforehand, 3 rounds of gameplay, and 2 contests on the day of the event.

In addition to the Overall Champion award, there is the Ryan Golke Certificate of Achievement Award. This goes out to the basement dweller that best exemplifies the Bear’s yearly theme in dress and manner. This year’s theme:

 OUTLAW BIKERS!

GREAT! WHAT ARE THE SCENARIOS, MINOR OBJECTIVES AND CONTESTS?

SAY NO MORE! HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR THIS HORRIBLE TOURNAMENT?
Paypal at least $40* to alfonziknov@hotmail.com (gift it, please!)

*The tournament itself only costs $20. The extra $20 will be reimbursed to you on the day of the tournament in the form of crisp one dollar bills. This cash will be used by you for Luck of the Rodge rolls.

WHAT IN TARNATION ARE LUCK OF THE RODGE ROLLS?
  • Let’s face it, the only thing stopping you from winning is that Horrible Bastard called luck and the Luck ‘o the Rodge rolls help work around this.
  • Up to three times per game, you can reroll one dice for $1.
  • The catch is you have to reroll all dice involved in the roll.
  • So you’d have to reroll both dice for a Ld check and it’d cost you $2.
  • Or it’d be $6 to reroll that 6 dice spell
  • Luck ‘o the Rodge rolls can also (thankfully) be used to cancel your opponent’s Luck ‘o the Rodge rolls.
  • You can only use this ultra special blocking move once per game, however.
WHERE IS THIS SUCKER GOING DOWN?
The Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center

YOU AREN'T GOING TO PLAY IN YOUR OWN TOURNAMENT AND WIN IT AGAIN, ARE YOU RODGE?
I won it last year and I will win it again. This is the only reason I run the tournament.
