'Ard Boyz 2011!

Just got off Skype with the Ben's of the Bad Dice Podcast, and we had a nice chat about Adepticon, 'Ard Boyz, and the sort of tournaments I attend. With that said, 'Ard Boyz 2011 is in THREE days. What are you bringing? I am showing up to Pandemonium with these bad boys...

Some more pics of each here, here, and here.

This is my rough draft:

I think I'll drop the PCC and pick up another unit of Slaves at the very least. What do you think?

I am not a fan of war machines, because of th scenarios. It is the reason I am (probably) taking 3 Aboms instead of 2 and 3 WLC's. I personally wouldn't use a Plague Censer on the Furnace wither. That is 15 tests on your own unit when he uses it. Same thing with the Jezzails. I would go with a big unit, or not at all. The third scenario has a good chance of wiping the unit easily without your enemy touching them.

Another unit of Slaves would do you very well to set up combos with the Abominations, Doomwheel, and even Storm Vermin. Also, think about a second Grey Seer. There is a good chance you will see a LOT of Warriors of Chaos, and Plague Magic / 13th spell eat them alive. Plus you can chuck dice with the second and not worry about losing your general.

I am unfortunately not taking Skaven. My local crew will likely have 12 Hydras and upwards of 200 Repeater Crossbows amongst 3 armies.

I can rarely kill 2 Hydras in a game, let alone 4.

I am debating taking my Lizzies, or VC, just need to figure out which army can kill the most Hydras without dying to that many crossbow shots.

Thanks for the advice. I picked the PCC because it doesn't need LoS (for the first scenario). That however will make it really inaccurate so I may drop it. I will also certainly drop the Jezzails, come to think of it 3 won't really do anything. I'll use those points to grab more Slaves. I think I'll also drop the Plague Priest down to Lv1, drop the censer, scrounge up some more points for a second Seer with the Power Scroll.

I see a lot of people giving the Plague Monks the Flaming Banner, what's the reasoning behind that? Why them instead of the Stormvermin?

I would love to take a third HPA but I don't have a third model, hence the Doomwheel. A lot of people don't like its unpredictability, but I've had the thing one-shot Giants and take out Aracnarok Spiders in two shots.

The reasoning behind it is to give the Plague Furnace flaming attacks. It is solid reasoning until you read the flaming attack rules, and see that magical attacks do not benefit from flaming attacks. The fog and wrecker from a plague furnace are magical attacks.

I had been using it this way myself incorrectly until recently, when I reread the rules and had an "Oh shit" moment.

One more question for you. Do you take the Warpstone Spikes on the HPAs? Why or why not?

Rhellion said...

Yes. Why? Vampire Counts.

what is the dead looking rat model?

Rhellion said...

All 3 are Hell Pit Abominations. More specifically the dead rat is The Caller from Necromunda.
